Homemade Flour Tortilla

Made Homemade Tortillas for my hubby on a Friday Afternoon

I could not believe how easy and cost effective it was to make my own tortillas. The ingredients were simple and healthy. I could not believe how better they were than store bought tortillas. Very delicious...fresh and worth making again!!!

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup Whole Wheat flour
1 tsp. of salt
1 tsp. of baking powder...i used cream of tartar and baking soda
3 tbps. butter, room temperature
2/3 cup of water
Rolling pin

Measurements for Baking Powder:
Baking powder (1 teaspoon) = 1/4 teaspoon baking soda + 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Combine the flour, salt, baking powder in a large bowl. Rub in the butter. Add the water and mix the dough. Lightly knead the dough for about 1 to 2 minutes, cover with a damp towel and rest for 10 minutes in a bowl. Divide the dough. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to form a thin flat tortilla.

Heat a nonstick pan until very hot. Than add the tortilla and cook for 1 or 2 mins. or until you see the surface starts to bubble and its browned on both sides. Make sure after the tortillas are browned place each tortilla in a plastic bag and rest for 10 minutes. VERY IMPORTANT.... to having soft and flexible tortillas.

p.s. This recipe made it to Foodbuzz Top 9
