Catfish Nuggets in Spicy Tomato Sauce

Catfish in a spicy tomato sauce well that sounds yummy!!! I stumbled upon this online recipe when I was looking for a recipe to incorporate catfish and tomato sauce. The combination of the different spices used in this dish was a flavorful surprise to my taste buds. I double the spices because I was using catfish nuggets and then i put more in to taste. Two thumbs up for can season while you cook!!! I also added some chipotle peppers. I served it over brown rice and sprinkle a little parsley on top. A very nice meal for a Friday night!!!! Quick & Easy To Prepare :-)

Ingredients: I Double the Spices & Put More In to Taste
1 (28 oz) can whole tomatoes in juice
2 (8 0z) can roasted garlic tomato sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
3/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/8 teaspoon allspice, I had Jamaican allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon honey
Pinch of Chipotle Chiles Peppers
2 packs of catfish nuggets

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Puree tomatoes with their juices in a blender. Heat olive oil in a skillet over moderate heat until hot. Cook garlic, spices and 3/4 teaspoon salt, stirring, until garlic is golden, about 1 minute. Add tomato puree, tomato sauce and honey. Simmer, uncover until slightly thickened, 6 to 8 minutes.

I seasoned my catfish nuggets with salt and slightly browned them in a hot pan with 1 tablespoon of olive oil for 1 minute on each side. Try not to cook the catfish. You want them to finish cooking in the sauce. Pour sauce into a baking dish. Add catfish nuggets and baked for 20 minutes. Serve with brown rice and a sprinkle of parsley. Recipe adapted from

Make Fridays A Little More Special Than Normal!!

  1. This looks very tasty! Allspice is one of my favorite spices to use (second only to smoked paprika).

  2. Yum, that dish is feisty with spices in the tomato sauce. Great photo.

  3. Ooh..I love Catfish! This sounds like a wonderful combination! Great pic!

  4. Looks so yummy! By the way, how do you make homemade catfish nuggets?

  5. Usually they sell catfish nuggets in the store but if you can't find any; all you need to do is buy some catfish fillets and chopped them into nugget size pieces. Thanks for posting barangay iligan!!!

  6. Spicy alright! Just how I like my food too. Don't see much catfish around these parts but I've gotta try this so I'll have to find a reasonable substitute.
