Going Raw for a Week….Ready, Set, Go!!!

cereal

Last week I decided to go 90-100% raw for a week. Over the years, my diet included a lot of grains, canned foods, fast foods, frozen foods, and sweets. About 2 years ago, I had decided to change all that and became a vegetarian. Becoming a vegetarian was a huge lifestyle change for me because I loved those BK whoppers and pop in the microwave dinners. Trust me, it was very hard in the beginning, but once I noticed how good and healthy I was feeling I was excited to keep this vegetarian thing going. So now, I have decided to challenge myself once again by eating raw foods for a week. I try to incorporate raw foods in my diet any chance I can get – I wish it were more often, but sometimes I get a little frustrated because I don’t know what to make or how to prepare good tasting raw foods. So this week, I will be taking my Raw aspirations into an exciting reality!!

To start the morning, I will be eating this delicious raw cereal!!! This cereal is anti-oxidant rich because it has apples, dried cranberries, hemp seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, granola, and homemade almond milk. This cereal is going to nourish my body throughout the day and get my day started with a bang!! I added granny smith apples, which is low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. They’re also a good source of fiber and vitamin C. Next, I added some dried cranberries (sweeten only with honey) they are also high in Vitamin C and can reduce the effect of free radicals. I added hemp seeds, which are an amazing source of protein. In one tablespoon you will get about 8g of protein, Amazing!! Next, I added some flax seeds and they are a great source of fiber, lignans and omega 3 fatty acids. I added some granola (just baked oats sweeten with a little honey), which gives you that cholesterol-lowering benefit. Threw a couple of chopped walnuts another source of omega 3 and other rich minerals. At last, homemade almond milk, which has number of vitamins and minerals, like manganese, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, selenium, zinc, calcium and iron. WOW, almond milk!!!

So, I hope my journey will inspire you to start making raw foods apart of your lifestyle!!

  1. I am a fan of whatever food makes a person more healthy and helps them feel energized and better about themselves because I tend to think the mind has more to do with health than we give it credit for. But that is just me talking...it isn't based on any research that I've seen

  2. I love this idea! I don't know if I could get my husband to agree to go raw for a week, though. This cereal looks amazing!
